Majlis Mutterings

So if you’re planning an Arabian-inspired wedding, you’ll enjoy doing a little research on the net to find ideas, techniques and even a few face-charts showing you how to create this mystifying look.

Most of the Arab women I’ve met are certainly not afraid of a little shimmer; and gold is a shade that echoes richness and allure in most of their eye make-up designs. But it really is the depth and divinity of the kohl liner rimmed around the eye accentuating the heavily, yet perfectly, mascara’d eye. To get the ‘line’ right takes time, courage and a lot of practice. First, you have to know your eye. Try a different thickness, length or curve of the line. Try a different tone, shade or even colour. Ask a friend for positive direction. And ask someone who won’t lie to you, even if it is to save your feelings from the onslaught of deep and dismal make-up doom depression. Or easier still, find a make-up artist whose work you admire and book a ‘learning’ session, perhaps.

The key to this look is finding the colour or combination of colours that suit you best.

Don’t be afraid of colour. Colour can enhance, alter and define your look considerably, but it has to be done well. Very important! First find what you like; then discover how to do it; and then find the products that help you do it better.

Jewel colours are certainly my most favoured for this kind of make-up. Think alluring amethyst, radiant ruby, enticing emerald, provocative pearl and dazzling diamond. And it doesn’t stop there: think of your favourite colour, and you will undoubtedly find a precious stone that references it. The trick is always in the blending. A neutral shade over the entire eyelid will create a base that can be blended into, and lends to a more finished look.

The rest of your make-up has to echo this polished look, allowing you to be the exotic princess that you are on this very precious day!

Bliss be to you,

The MakeUp Mistress
