Tears of joy

As always, on a wedding day, waterproofing the eyes is essential! So whatever shade you choose or how you choose to apply it, use make-up that is waterproof and long-lasting. Mascara and eyeliner have simply got to be, so don’t accept anything less. I’ve tried, and cried through, quite a few applications, and the ones that haven’t budge a bit are the Maybelline Master Drama range of kohl liner eye pencil and their “the Falsies” Volume Express Waterproof mascara. No, really! I have cried through them, and no budge-smudge!! Just don’t rub your eyes…for any reason. (Excessive)Rubbing may cause a wee smudge of any pencil on the lower lid, but nowhere near the raccoon eyes that haunt our make-up nightmares.

Oh, and a word of warning: getting the make-up off may require a few applications of cleanser.

If you’re going to use powder eye-shadow to create your look, then please use a primer. Not only does a good primer hold your make-up for longer, but it also intensifies the colour. OFRA Cosmetics has an eye primer that is specifically designed to intensify and hold eye make-up…for hours! And if you prefer a liquid eye-shadow, they have that, too. What I love about liquid make-up products is that they don’t look as though they’re ‘sitting’ on the skin. They blend so well into the natural texture of your skin, and it is perhaps because they settle so well against your skin, that they also last longer. The only downside is that it takes a bit of practice to work with liquid make-up, and a light hand suffused with some patience in the beginning. You only need a smidgeon of liquid make-up and it deepens with every application, so don’t rush in.

If you’re a die-hard traditionalist and will faithfully apply your powder shadows and blushes, then I salute you! I’m pretty old-school myself, and still do lips the old-fashioned way. Fixing powder sets and holds and also absorbs any hint of sweat. Mattifying powder is also a favourite, and works a charm to blot out shine when strong lighting is used. Blotting papers are an alternative, and are often less fussy.

It really comes down to using primers (face and eye) under your make-up to ensure the longevity of the make-up, and then your personal choice of whether you’d like a more matte look, or a delicate ‘glow’. Whatever you choose, it’s the glow from within that will win you the most compliments!

Bliss be to you,
